ID4002 Communication and Teaching in Arts and Humanities

This module provides final year students on Honours degree pathways within the Faculties of Arts and Divinity with the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of education through a mentoring scheme with teachers in local schools. It will enable students to gain substantial experience of working in a challenging and unpredictable working environment and to gain a broad understanding of many of the key aspects of teaching in schools.

The programme is based on the Undergraduate Ambassador Scheme launched in 2002 by the writer and broadcaster Simon Singh and is currently available in the Faculty of Science (as ID4001) and in the Faculties of Arts and Divinity (as ID4002).

In 2025-2026 ID4002 will be available to students in the Schools of Art History, Classics, Divinity, Economics, English, History, International Relations, Modern Languages, the Department of Philosophy, and the Business School. Applications will open in February 2025 for placements in the autumn of 2025.

Places on this module are assigned following interviews which are normally held in the preceding semester. See 'Application Process' for details.
