How will the summer opportunity be recognised?
Students will receive an end-of-course certificate or transcript from the partner university. Usually, the partner university will assess your academic performance and offer a certain number of credits according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). ECTS is a credit system based on student workload. One credit point is deemed to be the equivalent of 25-30 learning hours, including lectures, seminars and independent study. Many of our partners will not issue certificates or transcripts to students who are frequently absent from the classroom hours.
Please note that you will not receive academic credit at St Andrews for summer opportunities. The credits and grades scored will not be converted into your St Andrews degree. You will receive recognition of this external placement on your Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR) at graduation.

Other costs to consider include:
- Transport (round trip).
- Accommodation.
- Other living expenses, e.g., local transport, food, phone, internet.

UK-Malaysia Sustainable Entrepreneurship Summer Programme
The University of St Andrews has received the opportunity to nominate two undergraduate students to a Sustainable Entrepreneurship Summer Programme, to be hosted by Universiti Malaya from 18-22 August 2025. The summer programme is coordinated by the UK-Malaysia University Consortium, which the University of St Andrews has recently joined.
This opportunity is open to registered St Andrews undergraduates, who are not on a leave of absence.
Please note that there are no guaranteed places for St Andrews students. The two nominated students must complete a second application form, and submit this by 12 May 2025. The second-round application takes around 2-3 hours to complete. A UK-MUC selection panel will consider these application forms, and offer 25 places to students at UK-MUC higher education institutions.
The Sustainable Entrepreneurship programme has been developed for students to learn the foundations of entrepreneurship. They will learn how to ideate, create and manage sustainable enterprises through problem-solving methodologies. They will visit several organisations in Kuala Lumpur to explore their contributions to the local economy, and participate in a conference.
If you are selected, the UK-MUC will cover the cost of the programme fees, accommodation and travel. You must register your travel with St Andrews. However, you will be responsible for covering your meals while on the programme; any visa or related costs, and any additional costs.
The deadline for applications is 0900 on Monday 28 April 2025. The selection panel is comprised of professional services staff relevant to the summer programme theme. Please email the Global Office for further information and the application form.
