Long standing illness or health condition
The Disability Team provides a confidential support service for disabled students, including individuals who have a long standing illness, medical or health condition. The team advises on reasonable adjustments and personal support and shares relevant details about this with other University Services and Academic Schools. Medical information and, where possible, supporting documentation that outlines recommended teaching and examination adjustments is required.
It may be your condition does not impact on your studies but may affect your stay in halls of residence. If you are unsure if you qualify for alternative arrangements or simply want to discuss your health issues, the Disability Team are happy to discuss any concerns.
If you require personal care please go to the Independent Living guidance on our website.
Students who have longstanding medical or health problems and are ordinarily resident in the UK may be eligible for Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA). The Disability Team can offer guidance on the process and help with applications. Further information regarding DSA is available from your respective funding authority:
- Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS)
- Student Finance England
- Student Finance Northern Ireland
- Student Finance Wales
If you decide not to apply for DSA, or are not eligible for it, the Disability Team will still be able to advise you on what support is available to you so please get in touch with us.
You can make an appointment to speak to a Disability Adviser by emailing disability@st-andrews.ac.uk.
