Requesting a Leave of Absence
If you are considering a leave of absence, you should first contact the relevant Registry Support Officer. They will discuss your circumstances and the implications of a possible Leave of Absence such as academic progression, fees, funding and accommodation.
Please see the following links for further information about University policies:
- Leave of Absence Policy
- Accommodation Terms and Conditions
- Fee Liability
- Award Information
- Assessment Policies and Procedures
When requesting a Leave of Absence, you will be asked to give some information in relation to your circumstances. This allows the Registry Student Support Officer to have a better understanding of your circumstances and be able to advise you appropriately in relation to implications.
Please be aware that you will be required to provide some details as to your reason for requesting a Leave Of Absence.
In some cases you may need to meet with the Registry Officer or Pro-Dean and you may be asked to provide additional information. It is also important to remember that a Leave of Absence may not be automatically guaranteed and a student may need to extend the period for the purpose of academic progression.
Please also note for undergraduate and postgraduate taught Students, the deadline for applications is Friday of Week 9 at 5pm. The Leave of Absence application will only be considered before the deadline if all relevant information has been provided to the Registry Support Officer.
You should note that the results from the previous semester will be required to be reported (if applicable) before a Leave of Absence for a semester can be considered.
If your Leave of Absence is approved, you will receive official notification from the Registry Office by email. This will confirm your period of leave, including the start and end date. If your Leave of Absence is not approved, please get in touch with the Registry Support Officer who will be able to discuss other options available with you.
Student Services
You may also feel that you need to discuss your options with Student Services who can offer advice and suggest various options and resources.
The Advice and Support Centre can give information on any student matter and you can arrange an appointment by contacting the ASC (theasc@st-andrews.ac.uk).
For information to consider for a Leave of Absence see - Things to consider.
