Counsellor

Valerie graduated from the National University of Ireland Galway with a degree in Commerce. After a successful international career in business and finance she went on to complete a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling from the University of Abertay.

She has since completed a MSc in Counselling from the University of Abertay and is an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy [BACP].

Prior to joining the University of St Andrews in 2017, Valerie’s counselling background included working within the voluntary sector and secondary educational settings.

As a pluralistic counsellor she works collaboratively and creatively with students to understand the issues that are affecting them and to identify suitable and effective interventions to assist and empower them to affect change and realise their potential.

Valerie values concepts and interventions from multiple theoretical perspectives and in addition acknowledges and embraces the potential for therapeutic opportunities within everyday life.
