Between October 2015 and January 2022 Sarah worked as a Disability Officer on the Lancaster campus of the University of Cumbria, coordinating support for disabled students, and arranging and advising on reasonable adjustments. Sarah has supported students in a variety of academic disciplines such as Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Primary Education (Teaching), Business Management, Fine Art, Animal Conservation and Youth & Community work.

Sarah completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice in 2016 which included an action research project on the topic of using social media (Twitter) to create communities of practice for students with specific learning difficulties. Sarah is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and she has completed additional training with Dyslexia Action, and The Educational Guidance Service to enhance her skills and knowledge for supporting students with Specific Learning Difficulties and ADHD/Autistic Spectrum Conditions. Sarah is passionate about promoting Higher Education to disabled individuals and Widening Participation agendas. Sarah believes that University is an important and enriching experience to help people understand and critique the world around them. Sarah is excited to join the Disability Team at St Andrew’s and is looking forward to meeting and supporting students!

Outside of work, Sarah enjoys going on walks in the Lake District, indoor climbing and she attends a weekly Aerial Hoop class (a little bit like trapeze!). She’s also partial to a bit of Salsa dancing!
