Rebecca Hyndman

Rebecca joined Student Services in August 2022 as one of our new daytime Responders. The primary aim of this role is to support students on a more urgent basis, responding to crisis situations or those requiring more intensive support and management on a day-to-day basis. Rebecca is based in the ASC on North Street and works in partnership with Lewis Reid to provide this support to students across the university.

Rebecca has a BSc. (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Glasgow and has worked in mental health for over 15 years. Rebecca has worked across the NHS, third sector and Higher Education and has experience across a wide range of areas, including eating disorders, mental health crises, disabilities, addictions, homelessness, and young offenders.

Rebecca spent several years working for the Anorexia Intensive Treatment Team in Fife, supporting those with severe and enduring anorexia to access treatment and support on an intensive basis, while living in the community. She then moved into a management role with a local third-sector organisation, managing both children and adults’ services for those with complex physical and learning disabilities, as well as managing a team of staff.

In 2020, Rebecca entered Higher Education, working as a Disability Advisor for the University of Edinburgh, supporting students with disabilities and health conditions, working closely under the Equality Act (2010). Rebecca created and led a social and support group for autistic students, and developed and delivered training on autism, mental health and eating disorders for staff across the university.

Outside work, Rebecca volunteers her time as Vice-Chair of the Board at Frontline Fife Homelessness Services, a local housing and homelessness organisation that looks to provide support and solutions to those experiencing homelessness. Rebecca has been a member of the board since 2017.

Rebecca is passionate about providing an individual, person-centered approach to support and aims to create a safe, confidential, relaxed space for any student she meets with. Rebecca is particularly interested in suicide prevention and awareness, providing support for the LGBT+ student community and eating disorders.

When she’s not working, Rebecca likes to spend her time exploring new walks with her wife and her Golden Labrador, Olive, going to the beach, seeing friends and family, and finding new places to eat.
