Framework agreement
The framework agreement for the modernisation of higher education pay structures responded to a widespread view within the higher education sector that the national collective bargaining arrangements in the sector needed to be reformed.
The agreement recognises the vital contribution which staff at all levels make to the continuing success of UK higher education and the need for staff to be rewarded properly.
It also recognises the need to modernise pay arrangements to:
- improve the recruitment and retention of staff.
- to ensure equal pay for work of equal value.
- to tackle problems of low pay.
- to recognise and reward the contribution which individuals make and to underpin opportunities for career and organisational development.
The details the agreement reached between the University of St Andrews, AMICUS, UCU, and UNISON on the development, design and implementation of the new pay and grading structure and related principles.
